After our Spanish classes today we took a hike up to Sacromonte. We visited the Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte. The museum was built overtop of catacombs, we learned that the catacombs are the site of Saint Caecilius’s martyrdom, and the abbey preserves the relics of 12 saints bones and ashes in the oven they were supposedly burned in. The legend is that if you kiss the black rock in the catacombs on a certain day you will get married in that year; however if you kiss the white rock on that same day, your spouse will die in that year.
The walk up to Sacromonte was incredible; I wouldn’t consider it a walk…more like a full on hike. A completely exhilarating and wonderful walk, in which we saw the city of Granada from a different perspective, including the entirety of the Alhambra from afar.
