Tonight we saw a Flamenco show! It was very impressive. It started out a little shaky as they asked our group for our tickets at the door and we all looked around at each other because we did not bring any tickets. However, I guess when they realized that they had a group of 14 coming and there was 14 of us, they just let us in.
The show took place in a long, narrow room lined with chairs rather than having a divide between the audience and performers or a stage. They used the hallway-like area as their dance floor. When they began their show, they were all sitting down in front of us. One man played a guitar while the remaining performers sang and clapped louder than I have ever heard anyone clap. I can’t imagine what their hands felt like when they finished the hour-long show.
The dancing began after the first or second song, initially with three female dancers. This dance was a little slower than the following dances, but their coordination was amazing. About half of the other dances consisted of only one dancer at a time. The individual dances were very fast and consisted of very quick stomps and clicks in high heels.
The girls wore the traditional flamenco dresses in various color schemes. As they moved their feet quickly, they would pick up their skirts so that everyone could see how fast they were moving. Somewhere in the middle, a man and a woman dancer went around the audience getting people up to dance with them. A few people in our group reluctantly performed and did great! It was a really fun time and I would recommend it to anyone who got the chance!
