Shanghai was nothing like what any of us expected it to be. There are skyscrapers, flashy lights, water towns, expensive malls, and even some american food options. Although it is completely different from Beijing, it still has something special and unique to offer. My favorite activity in Shanghai was the Shanghai Circus World Acrobats. This was an unplanned activity but was something that we were all interested in seeing. The show was absolutely amazing and featured live music, dancing, motorcycling in a sphere, bicycle performances, jumping through hoops, and many more acts. We all almost had a heart attack at some moments because of how daring some of the performances were. In the first performance, young girls would jump from bicycle to bicycle while peddling and maintaining perfect composure. At one point, all 6 girls were on the same bicycle in the form of a pyramid. After the bicycling, a man and a woman came out on stage in a boat. The man then pulled out a small board, showed it to the crowd, and then began balancing on it. The woman then hands him 4 glasses and another board which he then stacked on top of the first board. He continued to repeat this pattern until he was balancing on roughly 4 boards and 12 cups. We all thought that was impressive until he began to balance bowls on his head while remaining perfectly balanced on the boards. He balanced about 6 bowls on his head and then he tossed a cup into the bowls using his foot. If that wasn’t enough to impress anyone, he then was able to toss and catch a spoon into the cup which was on top of the 6 bowls on top of his head. That whole act was performed on a boat while balancing on boards and cups. It was absolutely incredible and nerve wracking to watch. The motorcycling was also daring and served as the finale for the show. A sphere held a maximum of 5 motorcycles, which were all riding directly behind each other. I also really enjoyed the dancing and the music. My favorite part of the show was the romantic dancing performance which was accompanied by a woman singing. The dancers were suspended from the ceiling with fabric and would swing across the arena. Occasionally, the male dancer would hold on to the woman’s ankle or arm while she swung through the air. The dancing and gliding were beautifully mastered and seemed effortless. All of the performers in the show were very talented and showed so much passion, culture, flexibility, and strength through their performances. It was an amazing show and was worth every penny spent.
